The charming storybook perfect Alpine village of Hallstatt Austria is nestled in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Salzkammergut region of the Austrian Alps. The village is hemmed in by steeply pitched mountains on one side, and a glittering swan studded lake on the other. The village’s charming streets, historic houses, buildings, and the shimmering Lake Hallstatt are magical.
Alas, Hallstatt is far from a well-kept secret. Hordes of tourists descend upon this small town, sadly to the point of over tourism. One of the best ways to beat the crowds at this bucket list worth destination is to book an overnight stay!

Bräugasthof
This 3-star hotel has plenty of amenities for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The building was first mentioned in 1472. Emperor Maximilian I. granted the house the right to brew beer in 1504 and for the last 500 years this brewery has been doing just that! Their lakeside terrace is one of the best dining spots in town, or dine inside their cozy dining room. Almost all of the 7 romantic rooms have a balcony with views of Lake Hallstatt.

The rustic-styled rooms are kept as original as possible using restored wooden furniture and floors.

Parking
P1 and P2 are the closest to the town center. If you are staying overnight try to park in P1, there is a shuttle that will take you to your accommodations. Complete details including current parking fees and a timetable for the shuttle bus.
Train / boat combination
Hallstatt train station is across the lake from town. A ferry connects the train station to the center of town. Simply take the ship Stefanie ferry boat / Lake Hallstatt Shipping across the lake to reach town. It’s a great way to get your first views of town!
